Empowering Chicagoland Veteran Entrepreneurs: How CVBO Can Help Your Business Thrive

Serving in the U.S. Armed Forces requires a unique blend of skills, discipline, perseverance, and courage. Those same qualities often define veteran entrepreneurs: leaders who bring determination and resilience into the business world.

At the Chicagoland Veteran Business Owners Group (CVBO), we recognize that building a successful business takes more than hard work alone. It takes connection, knowledge, and community support. That’s why our mission is to support, promote, and advocate for veteran-owned businesses throughout the Greater Chicagoland area.

Networking & community support in the Greater Chicago area

Business success often begins with strong relationships. At CVBO, we foster a vibrant community of veteran entrepreneurs who are eager to share insights, offer advice, and open doors to new opportunities. We bring veterans across the Greater Chicagoland area together through engaging events, such as our monthly Zoom meetings that encourage collaboration and idea-sharing, while upcoming in-person networking events will provide even more meaningful ways to connect. Many of our members have already turned these connections into new clients, partnerships, and business growth, all while building lasting friendships within a community that understands their journey.

Business education & training opportunities for veteran entrepreneurs

Running a successful business isn’t a one-time achievement; it’s a continuous learning journey. Markets change, industries evolve, and new challenges emerge every day. That’s why CVBO is committed to providing ongoing education and training opportunities designed specifically for veteran entrepreneurs.

Through workshops, webinars, and collaborative events with trusted partners like the Small Business Development Centers (SBDC), SCORE, and the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), our members gain access to practical, actionable insights that they can apply right away. From strengthening financial management skills to mastering marketing strategies, streamlining operations, or learning how to leverage veteran-owned certifications for competitive advantage, CVBO ensures that veterans are prepared to thrive in today’s business landscape.

Our goal is simple: to give every member the knowledge, tools, and confidence they need to grow their business at every stage, whether they’re launching their first venture, scaling to the next level, or navigating challenges along the way.

Mentorship & Peer Guidance

Remember that person in the army you looked up to? Perhaps it was a leader or maybe a peer who guided, encouraged, and inspired you to push forward. In business, a mentor plays that same vital role.

Veteran entrepreneurs thrive when they have access to trusted mentors who understand both the military mindset and the realities of running a business. That’s why CVBO is developing a mentorship program designed to connect experienced veteran business owners with those who are just starting or looking to grow.

This program will go beyond casual advice. It will provide:

  • Guidance on real-world challenges like funding, marketing, and scaling.
  • Accountability to help entrepreneurs stay focused and on track.
  • Perspective from leaders who have already navigated the ups and downs of business ownership.
  • Encouragement from peers who understand you, share your struggles, and your strengths as a veteran entrepreneur.

By pairing seasoned business leaders with newer entrepreneurs, CVBO’s mentorship program will create a culture of shared wisdom, support, and empowerment. This program helps members make informed decisions, avoid common pitfalls, and accelerate their path to long-term success.

Resource Navigation & Advocacy

One of the biggest challenges for entrepreneurs isn’t necessarily the lack of resources but knowing where to find the right ones. Veteran business owners often spend valuable time searching for grants, loans, certifications, and programs that could accelerate their growth. At CVBO, we simplify that process by acting as a central hub for veteran-specific business resources.

Our members gain access to curated information on funding opportunities, government contracts, certification programs, and business development tools designed specifically for veterans. Instead of navigating the system alone, you’ll be connected to trusted partners, local resource fairs, and organizations committed to your success.

But CVBO’s role doesn’t stop there. We also serve as a strong advocate for veteran entrepreneurship, working to raise awareness of the value veteran-owned businesses bring to the community. Whether it’s engaging with local leaders, partnering with regional organizations, or supporting national initiatives, we make sure our members’ voices are heard at every level.

Our goal is simple: to ensure you have both the resources and the representation needed to grow your business, strengthen your community, and make your mark as a veteran entrepreneur.

Celebrating Member Success

At CVBO, we celebrate every win, big or small. From landing your first major client to expanding your team, our members’ achievements inspire the whole community. Highlighting these successes not only motivates others but also demonstrates the tangible benefits of being part of a supportive veteran network.
